What to Expect

A conversation about you

We’ll start by discussing your medical history, current symptoms (if any), lifestyle, and any concerns you may have. This helps us tailor the exam to your needs.

Vision Testing

We’ll check how clearly you can see at different distances using a Snellen chart (the familiar letter chart). This helps determine if you need glasses or an updated prescription.

Prescription Check

Using a combination of digital instruments and a manual phoropter, we’ll fine-tune your glasses or contact lens prescription to ensure optimal vision.

Eye Health Assessment

We use advanced technology to thoroughly assess the health of your eyes. This helps us detect early signs of eye conditions—even before you notice symptoms. Your assessment may include:

Optomap Retinal Imaging – A wide-field digital image of your retina, allowing us to view over 80% of the back of the eye in one capture—without the need for drops in most cases.

OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) – A highly detailed scan that looks beneath the surface layers of your retina, helping detect early signs of glaucoma, macular degeneration, and other retinal conditions.

Visual Field Testing – Measures your peripheral (side) vision to check for blind spots or changes that can indicate glaucoma, neurological issues, or other concerns.

Slit-Lamp Examination – A close-up inspection of the front and inside of the eye to check for cataracts, corneal issues, dry eye, and more.

Eye Pressure Check (Tonometry) – A quick and painless test to measure the pressure inside your eyes, important for detecting glaucoma.

Binocular Vision & Muscle Balance

We ensure your eyes are working well together and that the eye muscles are properly aligned—important for comfortable, clear vision and reading.

Advice & Recommendations

After the exam, we’ll discuss our findings and, if needed, recommend glasses, contact lenses, or further treatment. You’ll have plenty of time to ask questions.

  • Can anyone wear contact lenses?
Most people can! Thanks to modern lens designs, even if you have astigmatism, dry eyes, or need multifocal correction, there’s likely a lens that will work for you. A contact lens assessment will confirm suitability.
  • Are contact lenses uncomfortable?
Modern lenses are made from soft, breathable materials and are designed for comfort. Most people adapt quickly, even first-time wearers.
  • What if I can’t get the lenses in or out?
Don’t worry, it's common to struggle at first. We’ll teach you a safe and easy technique during your appointment, and you're always welcome to return for extra help if needed.
  • Do I still need glasses?
Yes, it’s recommended to have a current pair of glasses as a backup for when you’re not wearing lenses, or in case of eye irritation or illness.
  • How long will the eye exam last?
